Fifteenth Stop - Olympic National Park - Kaloloch campground - July 10 - 13, 2018
Back to the Pacific Coast for our next stop at Olympic National Park. The park is huge, on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. Kaloloch campground is in one small area of the park, along the coast. Another great campsite! (it pays to make the reservations 9 months ahead of time on the day the booking window opens). We were on a bluff overlooking the ocean . . . 20 steps away we could overlook the beach . . . could see the ocean from our RV back window. Walked the beach the first night for the sunset, and watched from the campground the other nights. Continued good weather - mostly sunny but the fog does roll in and out and makes it interesting, and it is typically windy. Connie and Bernie were here at Olympic too. Makes it more special and fun!
One day we went to the Hoh Rain Forest to hike. It is a temperate rain forest, receiving an average of 138 inches of rain a year. Lucky it was sunny this day! Old old trees, with lots of moss.
The next day was Beach Day! Walked the beach and came upon an area where the Kaloloch River flows into the ocean and there were tons (literally) of huge driftwood logs. Walking the other direction, came to an amazing rocky area where at high tide the waves were crashing in. Luckily Connie was watching so we didn't get caught. The next morning (too early for us), Connie and Bernie went back to this area at low tide and saw all sorts of fishy tidepool things. The afternoon was time for relaxing and reading on the beach - trying to stay out of the wind.
