Eighteenth Stop - Coeur d'Alene Idaho - July 25-28, 2018
Leaving the North Cascades on our way to Idaho, we stopped for one night at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. The lake is actually a reservoir created by the Grand Coulee Dam, which we could see from the campground. The drive across western Washington was beautiful - orchards of apples and cherries (thanks to irrigation created by the dam), and rolling hills of golden wheat/hay/?
At this point we have been on the road for 8 weeks, and Karl now has quite the beard! Here's the last picture before he shaved it off.
The highlight of stopping at Coeur d'Alene was visiting with friends Vickie and Roger, who we know from Terravita. Vickie is my hiking buddy! They came out to the campground for happy hour and dinner the first night . . . the next day Vickie and another hiking friend and I took a lovely hike through a nearby forest with views of Lake Coeur d'Alene . . . then a tour of the town and lunch . . . .
The next day, while Karl worked on projects at the RV (thank you Vickie and Roger for allowing 6 packages of parts to be delivered to you!), Vickie and I kayaked on Lake Couer d'Alene. Beautiful day! We departed from the campground - working our way through open spaces among the reeds to get to the lake. Stopped for lunch. . . paddled 3 or 4 hours or so . . . then back to the campground. What happens on the lake stays on the lake, but let's just say that I had a little adventure at the end, while Vickie had the smarts to go the right way.
The last evening, had a yummy Italian dinner at Tony's, with views of the lake. Thanks Vickie and Roger for a great time!
